As many as 1.2 million Hondurans live without access to fresh, clean water. Many villagers live in the remote mountains and must rely on distant and contaminated rivers and streams for water. This means they spend hours each day transporting water to their homes.
Villagers are often unable to attend school due to the time required to haul water and, as a result, poverty is rampant. The poor quality of the water they work so hard to come by also spreads waterborne illnesses resulting in diarrheal sickness that disproportionately claims the lives of children.
Through our partnership with IMPACT, we supported the construction of a clean-water sanitation system in the village of Montefresco, Honduras, which now brings clean water to every home.
